GOV ADELEKE MOBILIZES CONTRACTOR TO CONTINUE TO CONSTRUCTION OF THE OSHOGBO-KWARA STATE BOUNDARY ROAD

After four years of abandonment, the contractor handling the Osogbo-Ikirun-Kwara boundary road, SAMYA Construction Company Limited, has returned to the road.

It would be recalled that the Osun State government under the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, flagged off the construction of the road in 2012.

The State government has signed an N17.8 billion contract agreement with SAMMYA Construction Company Limited for the dualisation of the 45 kilometers Osogbo-Ikirun- Kwara State Boundary Road.

A statement from the state government then said “the dualisation had been segmented into three of Osogbo-Dagbolu (International Market) to Alamisi Market in Ikirun (9.52 kilometers); Osogbo (Old-garage) to Ikirun junction road (20.5 kilometers) and Ikirun-IlaOdo- Kwara State boundary road (16.5 kilometer)”.

However, the road which was not completed before the Aregbesola administration handed it over to its predecessor and immediate past governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, was only dualised to Ikirun with the rest abandoned for the last four years.

Residents Attribute Abandonment To Fight Between Aregbesola and Oyetola

Meanwhile, residents of the abandoned area have attributed the decision of the past government not to finish the road to the fight between Oyetola and his predecessor, Aregbesola.

The residents who spoke with Osun Daily said it was vindictive of Oyetola to abandon the road, while adding that the lack of a good road in the area has caused them a lot of hardship.

“It is very sad that the past governor abandon that road because of the fight between him and Aregbesola. That is so callous.

“Whatever will benefit the society, irrespective of whatever is happening between the two man, he ought to have continue that good work.

“The road was dualised from Osogbo to Ikirun and it stopped there but we are very glad the incumbent governor has ordered the contractor to return back to the road”.
