Operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have arrested a 27-year-old man, Emmanuel Awahnse, over allegations of stealing three goats in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspect was apprehended inside a church during the naming ceremony of his child, bringing a dramatic twist to what was meant to be a joyful family occasion.
🚨 How the Arrest Happened
According to the So-Safe Corps Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, Awahnse was initially sighted on February 6, 2026, around 5:00 a.m., during a routine patrol along the Madoga–Ita-Ege road.
He was reportedly riding a motorcycle with an accomplice while carrying a suspicious black bag. When operatives attempted to stop them, the duo fled. After a chase, they abandoned both the motorcycle and the bag — which was later found to contain three stolen goats.
Following the discovery, a surveillance operation was launched to track down the suspects.
📍 Arrest and Investigation
Awahnse, also known as Ariwo Oja and said to be a native of Odoforo in Ipokia, was eventually arrested on February 19 at about 1:30 p.m.
Preliminary investigations suggest that he and his accomplice, identified as Ketonsu (alias Ijagun), allegedly stole the goats from Ifonyintedo.
Dr. Ganzallo confirmed that both the recovered animals and the suspect have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Idiroko Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
🛡️ Community Safety Concerns
The So-Safe Corps reiterated its commitment to strengthening community patrols and ensuring swift action against criminal activities across Ogun State.
The incident has since sparked conversations around:
- Increased vigilance during social and religious gatherings
- The effectiveness of local security outfits
- The importance of community collaboration in crime prevention
As investigations continue, residents are being urged to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
