A Ghanaian Bolt driver has gone viral after sharing his blunt opinion about Nigerians, sparking heated debates across social media.
In a clip circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the driver made the remark while speaking with a tourist about his experiences with people from different countries.
According to him, Nigerians are quick to ask for money whenever they meet visitors.
In his words, he said:
“If you go to Nigeria eeh, the whole people are beggars. They will beg you for money. That’s to tell you how much they beg.”
The comment quickly spread online and divided social media users.
Many Nigerians criticized the driver for generalizing an entire nation based on personal encounters, arguing that such statements reinforce negative stereotypes about the country.
Others, however, said his observation reflected experiences they have had while visiting or living in Nigeria.
The viral clip has since triggered a wave of reactions from users on X (formerly Twitter), with people sharing different opinions.
Reactions from social media users:
Chinedu Okafor: “You can’t judge over 200 million people like this. That’s pure ignorance.”
Ama Boateng: “I’m Ghanaian but this is an unfair generalization. Every country has people who beg.”
Tunde Adebayo: “There are places in Nigeria where this happens, but saying all Nigerians beg is wrong.”
Kofi Mensah: “Travel more and you’ll see this happens in many countries, not just Nigeria.”
Blessing Eze: “Funny how people generalize Nigerians but ignore the hardworking ones everywhere in the world.”
Sadiq Lawal: “Some areas have this problem, but the driver shouldn’t label the whole country like that.”
The viral video has reignited conversations about stereotypes, travel experiences, and how sweeping generalizations about a country can easily spark controversy online.
