On Saturday, fuel-loaded trucks caught fire along the Ibadan-Ife road, resulting in the burning of four cars and multiple houses.
The incident happened in the Egbeda Local Government Area at the end of Ajia Circular Road, resulting in traffic jams that left drivers and commuters stuck for several hours.
Four cars were involved: an 18-person bus, a mid-sized truck, a Micra taxi, and a truck loaded with gasoline.
The fire, which broke out at around 5:45 p.m., damaged property and forced several families to evacuate, according to Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the State Fire Services.
Additionally, he said that early research points to the possibility that residents’ attempts to siphon gasoline from the leaking truck caused it.
He declared, “A destructive fire broke out inside a petroleum truck on September 7, 2024, at around 5:45 PM. The fire ravaged the truck’s pump, displacing several families and causing significant property damage.”
“Early investigations indicate that some residents attempted to take advantage of the fuel leak for their own gain, which resulted in the fire. Some people suffered minor injuries.”
As of the time of filing this report, it could not be officially confirmed whether lives were lost in the incident.
