A Nigerian lady has left social media users stunned after recounting how a harmless joke during a date ended up becoming the biggest heartbreak of her life.
In a now-viral video shared on TikTok, the woman revealed that she and her boyfriend were out together when he suddenly pointed at a beautiful lady and jokingly said, “Maryam, don’t you see this girl is fine?”
Trying to play along and not wanting to seem insecure, she jokingly replied, “Should I collect her number for you?” To her surprise, her boyfriend said yes.
Believing it was all harmless banter and wanting to be the “cool girlfriend,” she walked up to the stranger and told her that her brother liked her and wanted her phone number.
The girl initially declined, but the lady persisted, even telling her that if she didn’t want to be her brother’s girlfriend, they could at least be friends. Eventually, the girl gave her the number, which she handed over to her boyfriend.
That moment, she said, marked the beginning of the end.
Unknown to her, her boyfriend began dating the same girl secretly while still maintaining his relationship with her. Months later, he broke up with her.
The real shock came when she later discovered that her ex-boyfriend and the same girl were not only together but were preparing to get married. To make matters worse, she revealed that the woman is already pregnant for him.
Her story has since sparked intense reactions online. While some users blamed her for overstepping boundaries in the name of being a “good girlfriend,” others strongly criticized the man, insisting that a loyal partner would never act on such a joke.
The viral story has reignited conversations around boundaries in relationships, self-respect, and knowing when playful banter crosses the line.
