After just two games in charge of the Super Eagles without a victory, Finidi George resigned from his position as coach.
The Super Eagles have not won in four games after falling to Benin Republic 2-1 on matchday four of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which prompted Finidi George’s departure.
Toyin Ibitoye, the former Eagles media officer, confirmed his departure on his X account on Saturday.
He wrote, “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.”
Also, a source within the NFF who confirmed the development stated that the federation is looking at employing another manager for the team. He also hinted that the federation is exploring the possibility of reducing the head coach’s salary.
The 53-year-old took over as the Super Eagles’ coach in May after Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro left at the conclusion of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in February. But for the international friendly doubleheader against Ghana and Mali in March, the former Enyimba manager temporarily assumed leadership of the team.
