The federal government, FG, has suspended 13 students of Federal Government College, FGC Enugu, over a bullying incident in the school.
This was revealed in a statement by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, who also expressed serious concerns regarding discipline and safety in the classroom.
In the statement tagged, FG suspends students bullying,” he condemned the incident, stressing the need for a safe learning environment for students.
He revealed that in order to carry out a comprehensive investigation, including potential ties to outside organizations, the School-Based Management Committee, or SBMC, has been instructed to work with security agencies.
Alausa said that by involving law enforcement and examining current safety procedures, quick steps have been taken to improve security at the college.
The Minister also revealed that the federal government has suspended all 13 of the students involved in the bullying incident for a period of six weeks while the investigative committee’s report is being prepared.
He went on to say that when the FG suspends students who harass others, it will discourage other students from doing the same.
