A heartbreaking story shared online has stirred emotional reactions after a lady revealed how a father broke down in tears upon discovering the truth about his sons’ education.
According to her account, the painful incident happened in an office after a man travelled from Ghana to Nigeria to personally check on the academic progress of his two sons.
The lady explained that both the father and the boys’ mother live in Ghana, while the children were sent to Nigeria to study. For about three years, the man had consistently asked them to send updates about their studies.
However, the boys allegedly kept feeding him false information.
A few days before the shocking discovery, the father reportedly travelled quietly from Ghana to Nigeria without informing his children. His goal was simply to confirm how they were performing academically.
When he arrived at the school, a senior administrator asked him to return the following day so the students’ academic files could be retrieved.
The following morning, the father returned with hope of hearing positive news about his children’s progress.
Instead, he was met with a devastating truth.
According to the school’s records, the two boys had indeed gained admission, and their acceptance fees as well as first-year tuition were successfully paid.
However, after having carryovers in their first year, they reportedly abandoned their studies entirely.
Despite dropping out of school, the sons allegedly continued to demand money from their parents every month.
Unaware of the situation, the father had been sending ₦300,000 monthly for their upkeep. He also reportedly paid for accommodation, tuition and other living expenses throughout the period.
For three years, the boys allegedly kept collecting money while hiding the truth about their academic status.
When the school files were eventually presented and the reality became clear, the father reportedly could not contain his emotions and burst into tears right there in the office.
The lady who shared the story wrote:
“I have never seen a father cry in public until this morning.
Yesterday, a man came to the office to ask about his sons’ academic progress. He and their mother live in Ghana, and for three years he has been asking the boys to send updates about school.”
She continued:
“A few days ago, he travelled from Ghana to Nigeria without informing them. He came to the school yesterday, but the senior admin asked him to return today so their files could be retrieved.”
According to her, the truth became clear when the files were brought out.
“Yes, the boys gained admission. Yes, their acceptance fees and first-year school fees were paid.
But after having carryovers in their first year, they abandoned school completely. Yet every month, they kept collecting money from home.”
She added that the father had been sending ₦300,000 monthly for their upkeep while also covering accommodation and other expenses.
“For three years, they lied. Not one of them pitied their father.
When the files were brought out and the truth was revealed, the man just burst into tears in the office. That was the first time in my life I saw a father cry like that.”
Public Reactions
Many social media users reacted emotionally to the story, expressing sympathy for the father and disappointment in the children.

“The heartbreak on that father’s face is unbearable. He gave his children everything — education, money, care — and they repaid him with lies and deceit for three years. Life has a way of balancing things.”
Beniwinn commented:
“This is heartbreaking. A father’s silence is often his greatest strength, so when he breaks like that, you know the pain is deep.”
Dayvid added:
“He cried because all his efforts and sacrifices have been wasted. It is very painful. He might even have borrowed money to ensure they had the best.”
Vicson wrote:
“Making mistakes is one thing, but taking advantage of a parent’s trust and support for three years is betrayal.”
Otaroghene suggested a solution:
“One way to prevent this is for schools to automate systems so parents also have access to students’ academic records and updates.”
