Employee Requests N1.7 Million Salary Advance Just One Month Into Job

A female entrepreneur, @ChiomaAmandi on X (formerly Twitter), recently shared a shocking encounter with a newly hired employee. According to her post, the employee, who had been on the job for only a month, requested a N1.7 million salary advance.

After reading the request, the entrepreneur said she sought advice from senior colleagues in her organization to avoid making a wrong decision.

In her tweet, which expressed her outrage over the audacity of the request, she hinted that this incident was only “the tip of the iceberg” regarding her experiences with employees.

One month and you’re already treating your employer like a personal credit facility. And then people wonder why founders become extremely guarded over time. It usually gets to a point, guyss. What’s this madnesss?”

The tweet, accompanied by a screenshot of the employee’s request, has garnered over 300,000 views.

Public Reactions

Users on X flooded the comment section with their thoughts:

Sophia Opos: “Deducted from your salary, na corporative?? Abi na loan bank??”

Hafsat: “This audacity is sickening. Even sending it to you herself. Telling you how she needs to sort it all out immediately. She will still do more than this in the future.”

Shamoru Ogwu: “I believe there should be a policy for salary advance including the advance limit. If the need isn’t particularly serious, the employee should have looked for an alternative somewhere and paid from their salaries instead of requesting an advance one month into the job.”

Fine Bebe: “This reminded me of someone I hired last year August. Started 3rd week of August and we paid him in full only for him to come back 2nd week of August for salary advance 😭 I was so confused the 3 months he spent nothing tangible came out of it.”
