The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended six senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for alleged involvement in a N6 billion fraud.
The arrest follows an order from Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant General, who directed the handover of the officers to the EFCC for interrogation.
Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the EFCC previously penned a letter to the NSCDC Commandant General, requesting the release of the implicated officers for questioning. Subsequently, the officers were transferred to the EFCC’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, where they were grilled, according to PUNCH.
While precise details of the alleged fraud remain scant, it is believed to involve financial misconduct amounting to over N6 billion. The detained NSCDC officers are facing rigorous scrutiny from EFCC investigators to ascertain their involvement in the purported fraudulent activities.
Babawale Afolabi, spokesperson of the NSCDC has however denied knowledge of the probe.
