The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kano Central senatorial candidate AbdulKareem AbdulSalam Zaura, popularly known as A.A Zaura, wanted.
The politician was declared wanted in connection with an alleged $1.3 million fraud case filed against him by a Kuwaiti national.
The EFCC lawyer, Ahmed Rogha, told reporters on Monday in Kano that a manhunt had been launched for Zaura and that he would be apprehended as soon as he was found.
He is on trial at the Federal High Court in Kano, but the case was halted today due to the absence of the trial judge, who is said to be on other national assignments.
“We’re looking for Zaura, and as soon as we find him, he’ll be arrested.” Ordinarily, he should be in our custody, and the court has confirmed that, but I can assure you that he will be arrested and brought to court on the next adjourned date, January 30, 2023.” the lawyer
However, the accused’s counsel, Ibrahim Waru, criticized the EFCC’s decision to arrest his client.
The lawyer argued that his client was not required by law to appear in court, citing Zaura’s pending appeal with the Supreme Court.
The arraignment has been postponed until January 30, 2023.
