Nollywood actress Doris Simeon talks about the difficulties she encountered during her protracted custody dispute with Daniel Ademinokan, her ex-husband.
Simeon revealed that the experience left her feeling “frustrated and depressed” in an emotional interview on Biola Bayo’s show, Talk to B. However, because of her strong familial upbringing, she kept her suffering hidden from others.
Simeon recalled that her role as a mother had been restricted since Ademinokan relocated her son to the United States when he was only 4 years old.
She disclosed that when her son was just three years old, she had her last chance to be a true mother to him. Attempts to stay in touch, she said, were often met with silence.
Doris claims that Ademinokan occasionally ignored her calls and that even when he did, he would soon get “busy,” making it difficult to get in touch with him again.
Doris Simeon on son’s custody battle with ex-husband
“I might have had my fault, he also had his fault. That’s why I said I didn’t feel anything when they got married, but the only thing is that he didn’t allow me to mother my child. That’s the only painful part.
“He took my son without my consent, he was just 4 years old when he came to the US. He was 3 when I mothered my child last. I was calling, but he wouldn’t pick up, and when he picked up, he would tell me he would call me back as he was busy, and for another 3 to 4 months, I wouldn’t get through.
“I was frustrated and depressed, but I can never show that because I knew the family I came from as my parents told us to be strong, no matter what you’re going through in life. I just went for a movie premiere and someone told me I am not here to see my son. That was how they took us to court”.
