A shocking case has emerged from Delta State after the Delta State Police Command revealed that a 17-year-old girl allegedly staged her own kidnapping to extort ₦500,000 from her mother.
According to the police, the teenager connived with friends to fake the abduction and demand ransom. The unsuspecting mother, a farmer who reportedly depends on hard labour to provide for her family, raised the money in desperation to secure her daughter’s release.
However, investigations later uncovered that there had been no kidnapping. The teenager allegedly used the ₦500,000 to purchase clothes, leaving her mother devastated.
In a statement, the police stressed the importance of parental guidance and moral upbringing:
“Train your children, so they don’t end up becoming a problem to you and the society.”
Authorities further urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities and social circles, noting that early intervention is crucial in preventing young people from engaging in criminal or deceptive acts.
