A Nigerian girl played a practical joke on her mother by claiming that a man who lives overseas and intends to return to Nigeria wants her hand in marriage.
The mother’s unexpected response, however, caught many off guard. She told her daughter to accept the proposal, go overseas, and leave the man if she no longer loved him.
The discussion has generated online reactions after being caught in a viral video that is making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter).
The daughter is heard in the video telling her mother what is going on, saying:
“He said he’s coming to Nigeria at the end of this month, so I asked him why. He told me he’s coming for marriage preparations. I asked him, ‘What marriage?’ I told him I’m not ready, but he said he doesn’t care. So, I thought I should tell you.”
In response, the mother, clearly unimpressed, replied:
“I’ll slap you! You’re not ready? Tell him you’re ready!”
The daughter then pressed further:
“Do you even know what he’s doing abroad?”
To this, the mother retorted:
“What is he doing abroad that you can’t do? Is he stealing? Once you get there, you can change him or go your way. Do you want to remain in one place?”
