Daniel Dubois stuns Anthony Joshua with shock knockout win to retain IBF heavyweight world title

Anthony Joshua was unable to compete against Daniel Dubois’ strength and skill; Dubois won all five rounds and submitted Joshua in four of them to hold onto the IBF world heavyweight title.

The 27-year-old repeatedly knocked down the two-time former unified heavyweight champion during the first part of the fight.

During a thrilling fifth round, two right hands briefly stunned Dubois. Just when Joshua tried to apply more pressure, the 34-year-old was also knocked down by consecutive right hands and was unable to escape the count.

“Are you not entertained?” Dubois said to huge cheers at Wembley.

“I’m a gladiator. I am a warrior to the bitter end. I want to get to the top level of this sport and reach my potential.”

Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine defeated Tyson Fury in May to become the first-ever four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing history. Oleksandr Usyk also held the titles of WBO, WBC, and WBA.

Rather than take on Dubois, the mandatory IBF challenger, the Ukrainian accepted a rematch with Fury.

After Usyk gave up the title, Dubois became the interim IBF champion in June and was crowned the world champion.
