Critic condemns “Unavailable” track’s ‘homophobic’ lyrics

A critic expresses dissatisfaction with the claims of homophobic lyrics made by Afrobeat singer Davido in his latest “Unavailable” track.

Davido’s fourth studio album, Timeless, was released a few weeks ago and featured 17 songs.

However, concerns were raised about the lyrics of ‘Unavailable,’ which were labeled homophobic toward the LGBTQ+ community.

The verse in question says:

“So, make no body para oh Say,

I carry woman (woman)

Shey na man wey I for carry?

Fuck all the rumours Abi,

e get when I talk say “I be pastor”

A Twitter user known as @mazpa took to the platform to condemn Davido for using his lyrics to spit in the face of the LGBTQ+ community.

“That low-key homophobic lyric in Davido’s “Unavailable”. Hmmm. For context, Davido was referring to promiscuity rumors. So the context here is promiscuity. But in his defense he asks “shey na man wey I for carry” as though he was being berated for being straight. Now what does promiscuity have to do with sexual orientation??” The critic wrote
