Court dismisses Ondo’s Deputy Speaker and reinstates Ogundeji

Hon. Aderoboye Samuel, Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Odigbo Constituency II, has been removed from office by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure.

The court ordered the State House of Assembly to immediately reinstate Hon. Iroju Ogundeji, who had been impeached, as the Assembly’s Deputy Speaker.

Ogundeji was impeached as Deputy Speaker in December 2022 for suspected excessive misconduct.

According to the court presided over by Justice Adetan Osadebey, the member was not given a fair hearing because the purported impeachment occurred before the Assembly created the panel to investigate him.

Following that, the court ruled that Aderoboye’s appointment was illegal and issued an order demanding Ogundeji’s immediate reinstatement and payment of all accumulated benefits.

Justice Osadebey granted N10 million in damages for the legislator’s humiliation during his claimed impeachment and suspension from the Assembly.
