Nigerian Singer, Chukwuka ‘CKay’ Ekweani, has launched his record label called Boyfriend Music.

The 29-year-old artist announced the launch of the label on his social media pages on Tuesday, which he co-founded with Joseph Salubi, his longtime friend.

The management of Boyfriend Music said the company will support artists, songwriters, and producers by ensuring they receive their rightful royalties.

In a statement, the label also aims to provide A&R (Artist and Repertoire) services, designed to help artists “unlock their creative potential”.

“Boyfriend Music Ltd. is excited to announce its official launch in Lagos, Nigeria. Boyfriend Music Ltd is a music management & publishing company dedicated to helping artists, songwriters, and producers collect their rightful royalties and providing A&R services to unlock their creative potential,” the statement read.

While expressing his excitement for reaching the milestone, CKay appreciated Salubi: “I couldn’t be more proud of this moment. From us being two young dreamers in Kaduna, Nigeria, to travelling the world and blessing people with the gift of music… Seeing how far we’ve come gives me great joy. I love and appreciate you always, broski!”

On his part, Salubi disclosed that he will serve as the managing director of Boyfriend Music.

CKay first gained recognition with the release of his hit single ‘Love Nwantiti’ in 2019.

He was originally signed to Loopy Music, which later merged with Chocolate City in 2015, where he released his second extended play, ‘CKay the First,’ under the label.

The EP included the breakout track ‘Love Nwantiti,’ which gave him to international fame.

In 2021, CKay announced that he was no longer signed to Chocolate City, but instead, had joined Warner Music South Africa. While reflecting on his journey, CKay revealed how he defied his parents’ wishes to pursue a career in music.

The singer has continued to make waves in the music industry, with notable collaborations such as the song ‘Trumpet,’ where he was featured by rapper Olamide last year.

The duo collaborated again earlier this year on the track ‘Wahala.
