The Federal High Court of Nigeria has received consent from the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to nominate nine individuals for appointment as Judges to its bench.
The new authority is in addition to an earlier one that granted the court power to appoint 15 judges to its bench.
According to a statement issued by the Court’s Assistant Director of Information, Catherine Oby Christopher, the nine Judges will serve in the Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Ogun, and Oyo divisions of the Court.
According to the statement provided, Justice John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Court, has requested that current judges, the federation’s attorney general, and the president of the Nigerian Bar Association nominate suitably qualified individuals from the five states for appointment to the Court’s bench.
The National Judicial Council Guidelines and Procedural Rules for Appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts must be followed, according to the statement.
All recommendations were to be delivered to the Chief Judge’s Chambers by no later than February 28, 2023, according to the statement.
