Chiwetalu Agu Warns Nigerians About Rising Cost of Living and Family Planning

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has sparked intense online reactions after a viral video showed him cautioning Nigerians on the increasing cost of living and the consequences of poor family planning.

In the trending clip, shared widely on social media, the actor spoke bluntly about the economic realities affecting many households in Nigeria:

Pampers price, dey increase. School fees price, dey increase. Fuel price, dey increase.

Prices of commodities, dey increase. You no guide, you no get shi shi, and you dey release, continue oooh, you will cry more than that baby. If you like, don’t plan your life.”

Arinze: Believes the actor’s warning is timely, pointing out that many people engage in unprotected sex due to stress and may face financial hardship raising children.

It’s so cold outside, so people are using s*x to calm down the pressure in the country but most of them don’t even have money to get protection… the cost of baby foods will shock them.”

Emmanuel: Criticized the actor for being tone-deaf, suggesting that his message discourages marriage and childbirth while ignoring larger societal problems.

O.A.A: Accused the actor of gaslighting, noting that Nigerians have faced hardships for decades and such warnings from elders are nothing new.

Imagine a statement like this from an elderly Ibo man. He wan gaslight Nigerians… Our papa dem don dey complain since the 80ties…”

Mr Neci: Expressed frustration, highlighting that systemic political issues, not individual planning, are the bigger problem.

Imagine baby dey cry for one corner, you enter for toilet dey cry your own silently.. God abeg oo.. help us change tinubu, our votes can no longer do it.”

Some users shared neutral or reflective comments, acknowledging the economic challenges while not explicitly agreeing or disagreeing with the actor’s stance.

The video has ignited a debate, with social media users divided between viewing Chiwetalu Agu’s message as practical advice or as insensitive commentary on Nigerians’ struggles.
