Nigerian singer Oritsefemi has recounted how he accommodated his Grammy-winning colleague, Burna Boy, during a disagreement with his mum years back.
In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Oritsefemi recalled that the ‘On The Low’ crooner cried to him for help, saying his home was no longer conducive for him.
He said, “Burna Boy came to live in my house after a disagreement with his mum. He dey come dey with me because he thought his mom was suffocating him in his own house. He cried to me. And said, ‘Bro, you will become somebody someday’.”
However, this candid revelation has not been well-received by Nigerians, who have taken to social media to express their disapproval of Oritsefemi’s actions. “If I lived with you and cried out of frustration, you honestly do not have the right to share that story… Those were my dark times, let me share the story or take it to my grave,” one Nigerian commented, criticizing Oritsefemi for betraying Burna Boy’s trust.
Another Nigerian stated, “There are some things that should remain unsaid,” highlighting the belief that Oritsefemi should have respected Burna Boy’s privacy and refrained from sharing such personal details. Reactions have also touched upon the potential impact on Burna Boy’s relationship with his mother, with one Nigerian noting, “It’s not his place to share this kind of gist, especially knowing Burna’s relationship with his mom and the entire public.”
While some Nigerians have defended Oritsefemi, claiming he was simply being honest, the overwhelming sentiment seems to be one of disapproval, with many accusing the singer of betraying Burna Boy’s trust and disrespecting his privacy.
