Buhari will be honored for fostering peace in Africa in Mauritania

President Muhammadu Buhari has received recognition in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, for his efforts to uphold peace on the African continent, particularly through regular consultations and conciliation meetings.

On January 17, 2023, he will receive the “African Award for Strengthening Peace.”

In order to receive the honor, Buhari is scheduled to fly to Mauritania on Monday, according to a statement released by the presidency’s special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

The Abu Dhabi Peace Forum is due to present President Buhari with the prize, per the schedule.

The forum was formed in 2014 as a gathering of leaders to discuss modern approaches to promoting inclusive citizenship, fostering lasting peace, and promoting a safer and more sustainable world for all.

Buhari will take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the Third Forum of the African Conference for Peace program.

He will likely speak about significant developments and achievements in the peace movement in Africa.

He will travel to Nouakchott on Monday and return on Wednesday. He will be accompanied by Geoffrey Onyeama, the foreign affairs minister, Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi, the defense minister, Maj. Gen. Mohammed B. Monguno, the national security adviser, and Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, the director general of the national intelligence agency.

President Buhari took an active role in peace-building efforts in Africa, helping to ensure democratic principles in places like Guinea Bissau, Mali, and Chad, among others.

He recently revealed that the ECOWAS member nations were developing plans to ensure coup plotting was stopped throughout the continent.
