Buhari appoints a new commander of the Guards Brigade

President Muhammadu Buhari met with the new Brigade of Guards Commander, Brigadier General AM Umar, on Friday.

Brigadier General Mohammed Usman, who was transferred a fortnight ago, is succeeded by Umar.

The Nigerian Army on January 7 redeployed senior officers for “administrative and operational efficiency”.

The Presidential Guards Brigade is a highly trained Army unit tasked with protecting the President.

The members patrol the President’s residence and perform ceremonial duties.

On July 24, some soldiers attached to the group were ambushed along the Kubwa-Bwari road in Abuja.

Terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Nigerian Law School and Veritas University, both in Bwari, thanks to their intervention.
