Brymo, a Nigerian singer, yields to criticism and apologizes for anti-Igbo remarks

Olawale Ashimi, also known as Brymo, a Nigerian sonic musician, has apologized to South-East Nigerians for his anti-Igbo statements.

The music musician sparked outrage when he went on a Twitter rant against Igbos over political disputes.

He’d made a number of tribally charged posts, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he tweeted; “F**k The Ndi Igbo!! To Hell With It!!”.

Following this, a petition was started on Change.org to have his AFRIMMA nomination revoked immediately.

Brymo decided to apologize during an Instagram live session after feeling the heat and outrage from Nigerians.

The ‘Ara’ Crooner claimed that the squabble began when he complained about award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie taking a traditional Igbo chieftaincy title but neglecting a national honor, implying that this shouldn’t have been the case given how the region is clamoring for the Presidency.

Someone requested the ‘Oleku’ hitmaker to apologize to the people of the south-east, to which he replied, F**k The Ndi Igbo…

Brymo stated that the phrase was taken out of context because he only used it to allude to individuals who were pushing the movement for his demise, not the entire tribe.

“I didn’t insult the tribe (Igbos), I will not do that. I apologize to any one who is saddened by such tweet. I was trying to weigh in on very important matters.”
