Matthew Akawu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the Plateau State Constituency election in 2023, has passed away.
According to a family source, Akawu, who was scheduled to represent the party in the 2023 State Assembly election, attended a new year’s celebration in the district on Wednesday.
“He then said he wasn’t feeling fine on his return home, his situation deteriorated and he was taken to the hospital.
“Unfortunately, he died in the early hours of Friday”, the source confirmed.
John Akans, the State Publicity Secretary for the PDP, acknowledged the candidate’s demise in his own remarks.
“Yes we are aware of the death of our candidate for Plateau State Assembly constituency but the party will issue a statement on that, that’s all I can tell you”.
