Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD) has issued a stern warning to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), threatening to shut down the company’s headquarters in Abuja if the persistent power crisis in the country is not addressed.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group expressed its frustration and disappointment over the constant power outages and disruptions, which have become a daily occurrence in Nigeria.
The statement, signed by the Secretary of AYAPD, James lIshaku, condemned the alleged inefficiency of TCN in addressing the power problems, despite the government’s promises to improve the situation.
According to the statement, the lack of reliable electricity has had a detrimental impact on daily life, businesses, and economic development in the country.
The group lamented that citizens have lost faith in TCN’s ability to provide sustainable solutions to the power crisis, and therefore, have decided to take matters into their own hands.
AYAPD announced that it will block all entrances and roads leading to the TCN National Headquarters in Abuja on May 24, 2024, if the power situation does not improve.
The group demanded transparency, accountability, and immediate action from TCN and the government to improve the power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for all Nigerians.
The statement further emphasized that AYAPD is not alone in this struggle, as it’s sister organizations across the country will join the protest if necessary.
The statement read, “We write with deep concern regarding the ongoing power problems in Nigeria and the inefficiency of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in addressing these issues. As citizens of Nigeria, we have experienced firsthand, the frequent power outages and disruptions that have become a daily occurrence in our country.
“The lack of reliable electricity has had a detrimental impact on our daily lives, businesses and overall economic development. It is unacceptable that we continue to suffer from power shortages despite the government’s promises to improve the situation.
“We shall be blocking all entrances and roads leading to the TCN National Headquarters, Abuja office on the 24th of May, 2024, should the poor power supply continue.
“We demand transparency, accountability, and iimmediate action to improve the power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for all Nigerians. We are not alone in this; our sister organizations within the country are with us and will join us as required.
“Our aim is to ensure that TCN prioritizes the needs of the people and works towards finding sustainable solutions to the power crisis. It is time for the government and relevant authorities to take decisive action and prioritize the welfare of its citizens.”
