AY Makun explains why he cannot refuse the national honor bestowed upon him by Buhari

Ay Makun, a popular comedian, has explained why he can’t refuse the national honor bestowed upon him by ex-President Buhari after being slammed by trolls.

The father of two had gone online to express his delight at receiving a national award from the Buhari administration.

This elicited mixed reactions from netizens, some of whom went to the comment section to disparage him for accepting an award from an administration they had criticized.

In response, AY stated that receiving an award is the highest honor a person can receive, and this has nothing to do with the person who bestows it, as the important point is that he does so.

He insisted that his loyalty is first and foremost to Nigeria, not to any president or political party.

AY stated:

“Those of you shaming or asking me to reject ‘A National Honour’ are clearly missing a vital point. Our country is bigger and more important than any president or political party awarding it. A national honour is the highest recognition anyone can get for his or her contributions to nation building. So my allegiance is to a country where i have contributed my own quota, and i am more than happy to be rewarded by the same nation”

@CLUB12XII: So sir! For your mind now, the honor you got was from Nigeria right and not from Buhari? 😀You’re joking and probably not being honest to yourself. Rejecting that gift would have been a strong message you pass to them too know you stand for your Nation, not hypocritical awards.

@pat_oyinloye: 💯 % correct. This is the comment. AY why are you still asking? You have accepted it so keep quiet and enjoy your award.
