The Rivers State police command has confirmed that Rhino Owhorkire, the Director for Youth Mobilisation for the Atiku/Okowa campaign team in Rivers State, was shot by gunmen suspected to be political thugs.
The state police command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to Punch. She claims that
“Yes, it happened. I have spoken with the Divisional Police Officer in that area. We are working to get the details, but I can tell you that investigation has commenced. “We will get to the root of the matter and fish out those behind the attack and ensure they face justice.” According to Naija News, Owhorkire, who was on his way home in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State, was shot on Wednesday night. According to a source who spoke to Punch on Thursday morning, the assailants shot at Owhorkire’s vehicle tyres before shooting at him through the windscreen. The source, who requested anonymity while recounting the attack, stated that Owhorkire is currently being treated at an undisclosed medical facility. The originator

He was driving to his house yesterday night and was shot by some unknown persons. “They shot the tyres of his car, shot directly at his windscreen and that is how he received those injuries on his mouth. His mouth was scattered. “As I speak with you, he is in serious pain. His mouth is scattered. But he is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.”
The development comes barely a month after Owhorkire was allegedly kidnapped and forced to denounce his support for Atiku in a viral video at an unidentified location. According to reports, Owhorkire was seen with thick blood dripping heavily from his injured mouth in another viral video that surfaced on the internet following the shooting incident.
Owhorkire’s lips appear battered with blood in the video, while his nose and the spot above his upper lip were swollen as he muttered some words repeatedly and tried to hold his lips with his hands. He was reported to have said “I am dying. They shot me now. I am dying, they have shot me,” in the approximately six-minute video. However, the state Commissioner of Police, Okon Effion, has ordered an investigation into the incident and promised that those responsible would be apprehended.
