Atiku won the presidential election in Gombe

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in last Saturday’s Presidential election, has won a landslide victory, according to results released from all eleven Local Government Areas in Gombe State.

Atiku received the most votes (319,123), according to the Gombe State Collation Officer, Professor Maimuna Waziri, Vice Chancellor (VC) Federal University Gashua, who announced the results around 01:00am on Monday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, finished a distant second with 146,977 votes in an election that was reported to be generally peaceful throughout the State.

During the results announcement, Professor Maimuna stated that the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,549,243, while the number of accredited voters was 542,997.

She also stated that the total number of votes cast was 533,778, while the total number of valid votes was 510,043. During the election, there were 23,735 votes that were rejected.

In the same election, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) received 26,160 votes, while Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) received 10,520 votes.
