Anita Pointer, a Grammy-winning singer, passed away at age 74 after a cancer battle.
On New Year’s Eve, the singer passed away at her Los Angeles, California, home while being attended by her family.
Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters passed away after a valiant fight with cancer, according to a statement from Pointer’s family posted on Instagram on Sunday.
“While we are deeply saddened by her death, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her sisters, June & Bonnie and her daughter, Jada. Heaven is a more beautiful , loving place with Anita there,” it added.
Anita was a founding member of the R&B group The Pointer Sisters, known for their international hits like “I’m So Excited,” “Jump,” and “Fire.”
The Oakland, California-based group, which also included the sisters Ruth and June, released its debut album in 1973 and went on to win three Grammys.
