A woman identified as Madam Stella has reportedly drowned her six-year-old daughter, Rachel in the Bayelsa community river.
The report states that the tragic event took place in the state’s Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, specifically in the Ukubie community.
According to some eyewitnesses, the woman who was looking for her daughter eventually discovered her playing in the water by the river.
Reportedly, the child disregarded the mother’s warning to stop playing with the water. In her rage, the mother threw the child into the river, where she drowned.
Stella apologized and begged for forgiveness after being confronted by shocked community members.
“I regret my actions. I never knew it would happen this way,” she said.
A family member, Jeph Nation, expressed his devastation over the incident.
“I have recorded two deaths already in my paternal family at Ukubie this year. All were painful and heart-touching, but this one was so pathetic,” he said.
