Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, has apologized to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a colleague, for his remarks about a nightclub.
Tuesday at the plenary, Akpabio declared that he would never intentionally disparage a woman.
Speaking from the Red Chamber floor, Akpabio restated his claim that he never meant to offend any women.
Regarding the matter, Akpabio stated that a ton of insults had flooded his phone.
Last Thursday, during his speech, Akpabio rejected Natasha when she tried to speak without being invited to do so.
He remarked, “Senator Natasha, you cannot speak without being asked or invited to speak in the Senate. This is not a nightclub.”
He continued by saying that his highly respected wife was the one who first brought up the issue with him.
“I will not purposefully denigrate any woman, and I always pray that God will uplift women,” declared Akpabio. Distinguished Senator Natasha, I want to apologize to you.”
“The interest displayed on social media indicates that we have enemies,” he went on. I felt I should tender a public apology to you.
“I do not mean any harm. People should focus on things that will move this country forward. Social media handlers should practice with decorum.
“We won’t regulate social media out of anger.”
Akpabio also denied social media claims that he has “numerous girlfriends.”
He said that he is happy with his beautiful wife and that, in accordance with his religion, he is married to just one wife.
