The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has approved the budget for 2023.
Abiodun said he would ensure full implementation of every item on the bill to maintain the momentum of his administration’s Building Our Future Together Agenda when he signed the N472,250,694,447.57b Appropriations Bill on Thursday.
“This budget is reflective of what the people of Ogun State want. I can assure you that on our part, we will ensure implementation of the budget.
“Through this budget, our people will enjoy the full dividends of democracy”, he noted.
He expressed his gratitude to the Speaker and the House of Assembly members for their hard work, which resulted in the budget being passed before 2022 was out.
A little over a month ago, Governor Abiodun presented the N472,250,694,447.58bn Budget of “Continued Development and Prosperity,” which included N270.41bn for capital projects and N201.84bn for ongoing expenses.
The signed budget includes revisions to the capital and recurrent estimates as well as projected revenue for 31 different areas across 26 agencies.
The adoption of the bill titled “H.B. NO. 084/OG/2022-Year 2023 Appropriation Law-A Bill for a Law for the Appropriation of the Sum of Four Hundred and Seventy-Two Billion, Two Hundred and Fifty Million, Six Hundred and Ninety Four Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty Seven Naira, Fifty-Seven Kobo Only from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the Service of Ogun State
The Bill was approved by the Ogun State House of Assembly as presented by the Committee on Finance and Appropriations, which was chaired by Olakunle Sobunkanla. He also moved the motion for adoption, which was seconded by his deputy Ganiyu Oyedeji and later received backing.
Later, during a meeting of the Committee of Supply chaired by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo and held in the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Bill was read and adopted clause by clause.
The report states that 22 MDAs’ recurrent expenses were examined, and four others’ capital expenses were also changed. As a result, the budget’s proposed capital expenditure was reduced from the original amount of N270, 411, 239,527 to N269,605,938,723.32, a difference of N805.3m, while the amount for recurrent expenses was increased from N201.839bn to N202.644bn, a gain of N805.3m.
The motion for the third reading of the bill was then made by the majority leader, Yusuf Sheriff, and supported by the whole house. The third reading of the bill was conducted in front of the members by the clerk and head of the legislative service, Mr. ‘Deji Adeyemo.
Oluomo responded on the House floor and gave the order to send the clean copy of the bill to the governor for his approval.
A breakdown of the budget showed that N79.47 billion would be spent on personnel costs, N21.12 billion on social benefits and contributions, N39.90 billion on public debt charges, and N61.35 billion on overhead costs.
