A recent social media post has stirred quite the debate online, as a man openly claimed that 80 to 90 percent of men were not raised properly. According to him, this lack of proper upbringing explains why many men refuse to help their partners with household chores.
Speaking candidly, he argued that assisting a wife or girlfriend does not make a man less of a man—or a “simp.” Instead, he believes chores are a shared responsibility in any household, and helping out is part of being a responsible adult.
He reflected on his own upbringing, explaining:
“In the house I was raised, although my mom didn’t force us to work, she would tell you: as I’m doing this thing, help me do that one. Chores aren’t just for women; they are for anyone who lives in the house.”
For him, helping a partner isn’t optional—it’s a natural part of living together. If a wife is busy washing clothes, cleaning, or running errands, he says, her partner should step in without hesitation.
He also highlighted that men who refuse to help often do so not because of personal preference, but because of the way they were raised. He criticised the mindset that domestic work is “beneath” men, calling it an outdated notion that needs to change.
The post quickly went viral, sparking reactions and debates online. Users weighed in on gender roles, shared responsibility, and how parenting shapes adult behavior, particularly in Nigerian homes.
At the heart of the conversation is a simple question: should household chores be gendered, or should responsibility be shared by all adults living under one roof? Many agree that teaching men to contribute equally is less about gender and more about raising responsible, considerate adults.
