Ahmonique Miller, a 28-year-old woman from Las Vegas, passed away in Miami a few hours after having a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.
Miller and her sister, Kiera Barnes, had traveled from Las Vegas to Florida on March 5 in order to undergo cosmetic surgery at Avana Plastic Surgery. She underwent liposuction and a BBL on March 7.
Later that day, she was brought to Keyla’s Recovery House, a surgical recovery facility, where she stayed with her sister. It has now been determined that the facility is not licensed.
Following the procedure, Miller reportedly received unprescription medication.
She was put to bed between 12 and 1 p.m., but when she did not wake up later that evening, worries increased.
When staff members checked on her at 9:30 p.m., they discovered that she was not responding. Emergency services were contacted, but she was confirmed dead by 10:26 p.m.
When police arrived, Miller was lying face down, heavily bandaged, and already showing symptoms of rigor mortis.
An autopsy later confirmed her cause of death as acute combined drug toxicity.
