A 26-year-old Nigerian woman has triggered widespread online reactions after revealing her decision to walk away from her marriage following her husband’s arrest and possible extradition to the United States.
The story was shared anonymously on Facebook by UK-based user Ikenna Nwatu, who said the woman sought public advice while keeping her identity private.
According to the account, the woman married her husband two years ago in Aba, Abia State, in what she described as a lavish wedding well known within the city. The couple welcomed a son and reportedly lived a comfortable, flashy lifestyle.
However, their marriage took a drastic turn in September when her husband—whom she openly described as a “yahoo boy” (internet fraudster)—was arrested and taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
She disclosed that their lawyer informed them her husband could face up to 15 years in prison in the United States if extradited.
While admitting she was fully aware of her husband’s illegal activities before marriage, the woman stated that she never encouraged or forced him into fraud and believes she should not bear the burden of his choices.
She also accused him of infidelity and living a reckless lifestyle, claiming he was publicly flaunting wealth and engaging with other women without her knowledge.
Expressing concern about her future, the young mother said she is unwilling to put her life on hold for potentially 15 years while her husband serves a prison sentence abroad.
She revealed plans to sell two properties her husband bought in her name and possibly relocate overseas to start afresh.
Despite anticipating public criticism, she insisted she has made up her mind and intends to move on with her life.
