Samuel Gift Onyinye Ola, a Nigerian woman lawyer, has sparked social media reactions after giving men legal advice on how to keep their property safe from their wives in the event of a divorce.
Onyinye claimed that any man who forfeits a portion of his assets to his wife following a divorce is “not smart” in a Facebook post published on Wednesday, April 23.
She suggested that men think about registering properties in their children’s names and establishing an irrevocable trust as ways to safeguard their wealth.
This, she said, would essentially stop lawsuits during a divorce.
“If a woman divorces you and takes part of your property, it means you’re not smart as a man,”she wrote. “There’s something called irrevocable TRUST. Register in the name of your kids, it ceases to be part of a marriage property.”
“The only exception to this could be Timing. If you run to “the trust” during your time of divorce, it will not be honored , it becomes a malicious step,” she added. “If the trust was established BEFORE the marriage, it is more likely to be viewed as separate property. If it was created during the marriage, it may be subject to division.”
