A Nigerian man took to social media to criticize a shoe vendor after she returned his ₦38,500 after repeatedly failing to deliver his order and fabricating that the market was closed.
In a thorough post on X (formerly Twitter), the man described his interaction with the vendor, with whom he had ordered a pair of shoes valued at ₦38,500.
The vendor had shut down for the year and would not be reopening for business for another month, he was told after he had paid.
In spite of multiple attempts to contact the vendor, including sending a WhatsApp message, the man received a variety of justifications.
The young man bought the shoe from another vendor because of the urgency of the situation. He then asked the original vendor for a refund, but she kept making excuses.
Frustrated, he took to social media to share his experience.
The vendor allegedly contacted him and returned the money less than twenty-four hours later.
In his post, the man wrote: “On December 29th, I made an urgent purchase from @ps_wears, which she promised to deliver by the next day. The following day, however, she tweeted that she was closed for the year and wouldn’t resume until the 16th of the following month.”
“After my Twitter account was restricted for seven days, I resorted to asking her on WhatsApp if my order would be affected since I had already paid before the tweet. To my surprise, I received no response.”
“After several days of no reply, I messaged her on Instagram, requesting a refund since I had already bought the shoes elsewhere. She responded by saying she needed to verify whether my order had been shipped and asked for more time.”
“I was forced to purchase another pair at the Arena Army shopping complex in Oshodi, where I found many vendors eager to do business. I don’t know who told @ps_wears that the market was closed and that nothing could be shipped out.”
“After her response, I explained that I urgently needed the shoes for my seminar presentation on the 10th of the month, but I still received no reply. I then kindly informed her in a direct message that I had already bought another pair and would like a refund as soon as she resumed sales. Unfortunately, there was no further response.”
“By January 16th, I was still waiting. She continued to ask for more time to verify something as simple as whether the shoes had been sent, which seemed unreasonable given that the delay had already been significant.”
Finally, the man confirmed the refund, stating: “She has refunded the money.”
The post sparked a wave of reactions, with concerned individuals flooding the comment section to share their thoughts.
See some reactions below:
@niklau_kla: She’s a big joke. I Once patronized her and what her rider brought for was color different and low in quality.
@talk2ifyn: Tomorrow, she’ll be accusing innocent village people on why she’s not getting patronised.
@theMustapha: Finding a vendor who is honest and trustworthy in Lagos is like finding a termite queen. 2 years in Lagos but i still prefer to patronise entrepreneurs in the north. I’d rather pay the extra money for delivery than deal with the very likely possibility of losing my money.
@iamkingjabulabi: Rich people everywhere, petty business close for the year till 16th of January 😂💔
@VROY_001: That vendor is in the wrong but still acting tuff lol. Instead of just apologizing and doing better, she’s still trying to act like it’s not her fault
@xybox: Now do you see why you should rather go to the market instead? You can test various options, check for proper fitting and eliminate the wait time for delivery and the uncertainty associated with paying online before delivery.
@masolanulolade1: Don’t delete this unless she pay you to delete because of the stress you have to go through just get a refund
@semonagirl: I keep saying this the greatest scam is paying for something you haven’t Received yet, no matter how much you preach for me I will always pay after delivery or you keep your product. If jumia can accept payment after delivery who you be? Ends
