A Nigerian man has sparked widespread reactions online after claiming he discovered that his wife had secretly owned the apartment they lived in throughout their marriage and had also acquired assets he believed he was selling to third parties.
The story was shared on X by user @jaach-light, who alleged that he remained unaware for more than eight years that his wife was actually the landlord of the apartment they shared.
According to him, his wife always appeared supportive whenever rent payments were due, never giving any indication that she owned the property.
The situation reportedly took a dramatic turn after he lost his job and began struggling financially as household expenses continued to mount.
Faced with mounting pressure, the man said his wife suggested that he sell his car and later two plots of land he had inherited. Trusting her advice, he agreed.
Recounting the events, he wrote:
“So I agreed. I sold the car first. Then the land followed. She handled everything. Even said she had a buyer already lined up. What I didn’t know was that she was the buyer. Not just for my things.”
The man claimed he later discovered that his wife had personally purchased both the vehicle and the plots of land without informing him.
He explained that the truth only came to light after a letter arrived at their home during what he described as one of their discussions about rent.
According to him:
“Only found out when a letter arrived during one of our rent negotiations. Her lawyer was requesting eviction. At first, I thought it was a joke. By the time I traced everything, the car was gone. The land was gone.”
The revelation reportedly left him devastated, and he said that when he confronted his wife, her response deepened his heartbreak.
Now questioning the future of the relationship, the man has turned to the public for advice on whether he should remain in the marriage or walk away.
