A woman has shared how her engagement ended after she was unable to attend her prospective father-in-law’s funeral due to work restrictions, a situation that later led to the cancellation of her wedding and ongoing disputes between both families.
According to her account, the wedding was originally scheduled for March, but plans began to unravel after her father-in-law passed away in November. The burial was reportedly held in December, leaving her with little time to arrange leave from work.
She explained that despite her desire to attend the funeral, strict workplace policies prevented her from travelling.
“I was unable to secure leave from my employer,” she said, noting that the notice period was too short and that her employment contract restricted leave during peak operational periods.
The woman stated that she informed her fiancé of the situation and also contributed financially toward the funeral arrangements. She claimed that he initially appeared to understand her circumstances.
However, matters reportedly changed after his mother became involved.
According to her narration, she later received a call from her future mother-in-law, who expressed disappointment over her absence and allegedly accused her of failing to support the family during a difficult period.
The disagreement eventually escalated, and the wedding was called off.
Months later, on May 20, she said her ex-fiancé contacted her unexpectedly, expressing a desire to reconcile and proceed with marriage plans.
She revealed that he had already selected a new wedding date for August and expected preparations to begin immediately.
During the conversation, he reportedly told her that he had expected more from her as a future wife and believed she should have continued making efforts to win over his family despite the earlier conflict.
The woman said she rejected the proposal and made it clear that she no longer wished to continue the relationship.
“I told him I was no longer interested and that I was done with the relationship,” she recounted.
According to her, her former fiancé refused to accept her decision and insisted that she had no right to end the relationship.
“He was not done and that I had no right to say I was done,” she alleged.
After blocking him, she claimed he later visited her family home with the bride price and other marriage items that had previously been returned.
Her father reportedly informed him that the family no longer considered her available for marriage and asked him to leave.
Despite this, she alleged that the visits continued, along with repeated phone calls from his mother.
The woman said the persistent contact has become distressing and that she is now considering legal action, arguing that her decision to end the relationship is not being respected.
“At this point, I am beginning to feel that there is something deeper behind their persistence,” she said.
She has since sought public advice on how to handle the situation and stop the continued pressure from her former fiancé and his family.
Reactions
“If someone cancels a wedding because you couldn’t attend a funeral due to work, that’s a major red flag.”
“Once she said she was done, that should have been the end of it. Consent applies to relationships too.”
“The family rejected her first and now they’re surprised she doesn’t want to come back.”
“Returning repeatedly after being told no is not persistence, it’s disrespecting boundaries.”
“She should document everything and seek legal advice if the harassment continues.”
