Tinubu Vows Not to Bow to Terrorism, Banditry

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will not succumb to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, or any form of criminal intimidation despite the country’s ongoing security challenges.

The president’s message was delivered by George Akume during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

The event brought together government officials, religious leaders, and other dignitaries to commemorate 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria since 1999.

Speaking on behalf of the president, Akume acknowledged the economic and security difficulties facing many citizens, including insecurity, kidnappings, displacement, and rising living costs. He emphasized that the government understands the hardships Nigerians are experiencing and remains committed to addressing them.

Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries.”

According to Akume, the administration is approaching these challenges with compassion, responsibility, and determination.

The president also paid tribute to pro-democracy activists involved in the June 12 struggle, noting that many endured persecution, injuries, and even lost their lives in the pursuit of democratic governance.

On security, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s resolve to confront criminal elements and strengthen safety across communities nationwide. He stressed that the government would continue efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other threats to national security.

His remarks have further fueled discussions around security and economic reforms, as many Nigerians continue to assess the government’s progress in improving safety, reducing criminal activities, and easing economic hardship.

Reactions

Some Nigerians welcomed the statement, arguing that strong leadership and sustained security operations are necessary to tackle armed groups.

Others said they would judge the administration by measurable improvements in security rather than public assurances.

Several citizens called for faster action to address kidnappings, attacks on rural communities, and the economic pressures facing households.

Some observers noted that while government promises are important, visible results on security and living conditions remain the key expectation of many Nigerians.
