A Nigerian man has shared a throwback story of how he was removed as head boy in secondary school after leading a protest against his school’s strict hair policy.
Identified as @Iyelolage on X (formerly Twitter), he revealed that the school principal—described as a member of Deeper Life Bible Church—introduced a rule mandating low-cut hairstyles for all students.
According to him, while some students felt the policy was too strict, his classmates encouraged him to take a stand. The following day, students reportedly made cardboard placards, wrote their grievances, and pasted them around the school compound.
The act did not go unnoticed. School authorities launched an investigation, and as a result, he was suspended for one week and stripped of his position as head boy.
However, he noted that upon his return, he was met with support and admiration from his classmates.
Reactions on X
The story quickly triggered mixed reactions online:
EcheZona: “My principal looking at you before telling you to go and carry block in school uncompleted building for that whole week”
Michael Ifeason: “Wait, is low cut not supposed to be mandatory in Nigerian secondary schools?”
Ella Gms: “We don finally see who dey front make we match enter Aso Rock”
Fabian Amenda: “That’s how Sowore started”
The post continues to spark debate about school discipline, student rights, and how far students can go when challenging authority in Nigerian secondary schools.
