A Nigerian lady has sparked conversation online after revealing the unexpected reaction she received from a close friend she had been financially supporting.
The woman, identified as @Queeneth0lox on X (formerly Twitter), disclosed that she consistently sent her friend ₦15,000 every week for five months to support her.
According to her, things took a difficult turn when her landlord contacted her over unpaid rent, while her own bank account was already under serious financial pressure.
Faced with her housing struggles, she informed her friend that she could no longer continue the weekly payments.
However, instead of understanding, her friend reportedly became upset and accused her of being unfair.
“I expected a simple okay, I understand from her. Instead, she got angry. She said I was wicked for stopping without proper notice,” she shared.
To make matters worse, the lady revealed that since she stopped sending the money, her friend has been ignoring her calls.
She also expressed shock after some mutual friends allegedly sided with her friend, suggesting she should have given advance notice before ending the support.
“The part that shocked me… Some mutual friends said I was wrong. That I should have given her at least one week notice before stopping,” she added.
The story has since generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating entitlement, friendship boundaries, and financial responsibility.
Social media reactions:
“So friendship now comes with salary structure?”
“Notice for free money? This country is not real.”
“Helping people is good, but some people quickly turn kindness into entitlement.”
“If she was your employer, maybe notice makes sense. But this one? Abeg.”
“This is why many people stop helping quietly.”
Many users argued that generosity should never become an obligation, while others said clear communication could have helped manage expectations.
