A 14-year-old boy, identified as Eke Miracle, has been intercepted by the Airport Police Command while attempting to stow away at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
According to an official statement from the command’s spokesperson, the incident occurred on the airport tarmac after the teenager unlawfully gained access to a restricted area without authorisation.
Authorities revealed that the boy was discovered trying to access the underside of an aircraft—an act described as a serious breach of aviation security protocols and a significant risk to both his life and airport operations.
“The minor was discovered on the airport tarmac while attempting to unlawfully gain access beneath an aircraft. This constitutes a serious breach of aviation security protocols within a highly sensitive operational environment,” the statement read.
The police further emphasized that such actions violate existing aviation byelaws that strictly prohibit unauthorised entry into restricted zones, especially within critical national infrastructure like airports.
Following the interception, the teenager was taken into protective custody. Officials confirmed that his parents were promptly notified, and all interactions were conducted in line with child protection procedures.
“He was treated humanely, and all interviews were conducted in the presence of his parents, ensuring his welfare was prioritised,” the command added.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over airport security, with authorities urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children, particularly in high-risk environments.
