A man has opened up about a deeply emotional family incident that occurred after he received his results from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), revealing how what should have been a moment of celebration unexpectedly created tension at home.
According to him, his older cousin—seven years his senior—had been living with his family after relocating from their village to prepare for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination. During that period, the two studied closely together, with him often helping her revise past questions and prepare for exams.
He shared that he was genuinely happy when she passed her JAMB exams. However, things took a surprising turn when his own WAEC results were released.
“When my WAEC result came out and I cleared everything, I was excited and showing everyone. But immediately I showed her, she stood up and left the sitting room. The next thing we saw, she was in one corner crying—not tears of joy, real crying.”
The moment was especially painful because it happened on the same day as his graduation ceremony—a day she had planned to attend. Despite already being dressed for the event, she reportedly refused to go after seeing his results and declined to explain her reaction.
“She had already dressed up to go with us, but after seeing my result, she said she was not going again. No matter how much we asked, she refused to explain why she was crying.”
The unexpected reaction left the household uneasy. According to the man, his mother later arranged for the cousin to return to the village the following week.
