Wedding Called Off in Abuja Over Undisclosed ₦8.4 Million Debt

A wedding scheduled for late January 2026 in Kubwa, Abuja, was reportedly called off after the groom discovered that his fiancée had an undisclosed bank debt of ₦8.4 million.

According to reports circulating on social media, the revelation came just days before the planned ceremony, although some accounts claim it was uncovered on the actual wedding day. The discovery allegedly left the groom shocked, prompting him to immediately cancel the wedding.

Sources online claim the groom cited a breach of trust and concerns about assuming a major financial burden at the start of the marriage as his reasons for the decision.

At the time the wedding was called off, preparations were reportedly already completed. The venue had been booked, invitations printed, and traditional marriage rites performed.

In conversations shared online, the groom was quoted as saying he could not begin married life knowing he would inherit a significant debt from day one. He reportedly questioned what other important information might have been withheld if such a major financial obligation was kept from him.

The incident has since sparked widespread debate on social media, with opinions sharply divided.

Some users defended the groom, arguing that undisclosed pre-marital debt is a serious issue and that financial liabilities can place strain on a marriage, especially when revealed unexpectedly.

Others, however, criticised the decision, noting that debt is common and does not necessarily define a person’s character or suitability as a life partner. They argued that the issue could have been resolved through discussion rather than a last-minute cancellation.

As of the time of reporting, neither party has publicly confirmed the full details of the incident, but the story continues to generate conversations around transparency, finances, and trust in relationships.
