A Nigerian man has sparked intense reactions online after emotionally opening up about the struggles of raising his newborn child alone.
In a viral video circulating on TikTok, the visibly distressed man revealed that his girlfriend allegedly abandoned him with their baby barely two weeks after childbirth. According to him, the sudden responsibility left him overwhelmed, exhausted, and unable to cope.
He explained that the baby cried constantly, making it nearly impossible for him to work or function normally. The pressure, he said, pushed him into making a heartbreaking decision he never imagined he would consider.
“My girlfriend left me with a two-week-old baby. The child has been crying nonstop. I can’t work, I can’t do anything. Two days ago, I took her to an orphanage home so I could do what I want to do,” he said tearfully.
However, the decision came with deep emotional consequences. The man confessed that after returning home without his baby, guilt consumed him. He said he couldn’t sleep that night and was overwhelmed by the thought of abandoning his own child.
By the next day, he said he couldn’t take it anymore.
“The day I took her there and got home, I couldn’t sleep. The next day, I went back and carried my baby. I no go fit oo. I carried my baby oo,” he added.
The emotional father went on to appeal publicly to women, saying he urgently needs help caring for the baby as he struggles to manage everything alone.
The video has since triggered mixed reactions online. While many users sympathized with him and offered prayers and encouragement, others argued that parenting—especially single parenting—should not be reduced to seeking a caretaker under emotional distress.
One user commented, “Parenting is not a joke, especially alone. I pray he gets real help.”
Another wrote, “Single father in the making. You all will now know how it feels.”
The video continues to spark debate about responsibility, abandonment, and the realities of single parenting in Nigeria.
