Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has sounded a warning over what he describes as a troubling rise in paternity fraud cases, revealing that he has handled multiple incidents within a very short period.
Taking to social media, Effiong disclosed that he dealt with two separate cases involving paternity fraud and marital infidelity in just one week, with one of the matters already argued in open court.
According to the lawyer, the cases were emotionally draining, particularly for the affected men. He recounted how one client broke down in tears while testifying, after discovering he had been deceived by his wife over the true paternity of a child he believed was his.
What made the situation even more disturbing, Effiong noted, was the alleged lack of remorse shown by the woman involved. Rather than accepting responsibility, she reportedly blamed her husband for the deception.
Effiong added that another victim in a similar case also became emotionally overwhelmed, breaking down as he narrated his ordeal.
The lawyer emphasized the growing importance of DNA testing, describing it as a crucial tool in uncovering the truth in such cases. According to him, DNA tests have made it possible to expose realities that might otherwise remain hidden for many years.
Drawing from his extensive experience representing both men and women in matrimonial disputes, Effiong warned that paternity fraud is far more common than many people realise, urging couples to embrace honesty and transparency in their relationships.
