A young Nigerian lady has sparked widespread reactions on social media after returning from a holiday to discover that her rented apartment had been allocated to another person by her landlord.
The distraught tenant revealed that the incident occurred while she was away and only came to light when she returned from her trip. According to her, the landlord has completely denied ever having any rental agreement with her, despite the fact that she had paid her rent before travelling.
The situation left the lady confused and distressed, especially as her personal belongings were still inside the apartment, which was now being occupied by someone else.
Identified on TikTok as @_nazamekpere, she shared a video showing what appeared to be her belongings still inside the house. Text overlaid on the video read:
“POV: The house you paid rent for before going for holiday has been occupied by someone else and the landlord is denying doing business with you.”
Clearly overwhelmed, she expressed her frustration in the caption, writing:
“What kind of a life is thissss 🤧 I don’t even know what to do.”
The video quickly went viral, attracting mixed reactions from social media users. While many advised her to seek legal help and report the landlord to the appropriate authorities, others expressed disbelief that such an incident could happen, especially after rent had already been paid.
The incident has once again reignited conversations online about tenant rights, landlord accountability, and the challenges renters face in Nigeria.
